Alfa V. Nickerson, 87, 13713 Indigo Ave., Clear Lake, died surrounded by
her loving family, Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009 at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit,
Mason City, Iowa from a massive stroke.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Gallilean Lutheran Church,
Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jeff Ungs officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake
Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Alfa V. Nickerson Memorial Fund.

Alfa was born Nov. 24, 1921 in Coulter, Iowa, the daughter of Chris and
Ingeborg (Strandskov) Jaspersen. She attended school in Coulter and helped take
care of her brothers and sisters. She later worked in a café and also for Dr.
Brownstone. Alfa married Walter Nickerson on Dec. 10, 1944 at Zion Lutheran
Church in Clear Lake. They lived on a farm south of Clear Lake. Alfa worked out
of her home during the 1960’s, and then for Furleigh Fruit and Vegetable Farm
from the 1980’s to the present.

Alfa enjoyed knitting, making afghans and blankets, playing cards, dancing
at the Surf, music, watching birds and was an avid fan of the Twins, Vikings and
Hawkeyes. She loved to do word puzzles and watch TV. She thoroughly enjoyed
watching her son and two grandchildren show sheep at the fair. One of her
fondest memories was of a 2004 trip to Washington D.C. to see the WWII Veterans
Monument.

Alfa was a member of Gallilean Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, the Rural
Lakettes Club and Oweso Clubs.

Alfa is survived by her children, Charlene Gillman and her husband, Leroy,
Winterset, Iowa and Allen Nickerson and his wife, Sue, Clear Lake; four
grandchildren, Todd Gillman and his wife, Barb, Garland, Texas, Sheri Monroe
and her husband, Galen, Little Rock, Ark., Andrew Nickerson, Mason City, and
Katy Nickerson and friend, Will Lubkeman, Clear Lake; great-grandchildren
Bethany, Jason, Alex, George and Genny Gillman; brothers, Ervin Jaspersen, Des
Moines, Iowa, Harold (Viola) Jaspersen, Thornton, Iowa, Arlo (June) Jaspersen,
Albert Lea, Minn., Herluf Jaspersen, Peculiar, Mo. and Earl (Sharlene)
Jaspersen, Garner, Iowa; sisters, Verna (Roy) Smeby, Joice, Iowa and Esther
Gilbertson, Billings, Mont.; sister-in-law, Marlys Jaspersen, Cedar Rapids,
Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Alfa was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Harvey,
Vernon, Leo and Lloyd Jaspersen.
