Richard G. McGowan, 65, resident of Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, died
Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason
City.

In keeping with Richard’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial
service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug., 25, 2012 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel 101 N 4th St Clear Lake, with Pastor Ed Bard officiating. Richard Gene
McGowan was born on January 12, 1947 in Charles City, the son of Irvin and
Genevieve (Sanford) McGowan.

He attended Clear Lake High School and graduated amongst the class of 1965.
Following high school Richard attended Mason City Junior College. Always having
had a great devotion to his family, Richard cherished the time spent with his
loved ones.

He enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews grow up and always held a large place
in their lives. Within the last few years he was delighted to be able to share
that bond with his great niece and nephew, Paige and Carter. One of Richard’s
greatest passions in life was classic cars, his favorite models were ’55 and ’57
Chevy’s. He enjoyed going to the Classic Car Rally, and also liked assembling
model cars. Other hobbies of Richard’s were playing cards, board games and
BINGO; he also loved cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings.

Those grateful in sharing in his life are his two siblings, Marlene Steenblock,
Clear Lake, and Jim (Kathy) McGowan, Marietta, Georgia; his nieces, Cordi
Juhler, Omaha, and Jessie Steenblock, Brainerd; his two nephews, Trent (Kelle)
Steenblock, Northfield, and Michael McGowan, Marietta, Georgia; and his great
niece and nephew, Paige and Carter Steenblock, both of Northfield; as well as
his extended family and many friends.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Stanley.

Richard’s family would like to thank and acknowledge the many caregivers who
have touched Richard’s life throughout the years across north Iowa.
