Janet Jean Vernon, 65, Sparks, Okla., formerly of Clear Lake, passed
away Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004 at Integris Medical Center, Oklahoma, City, Okla.
A funeral service will be Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2 p.m., at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Interment will be
held at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Janet Grimm
Vernon Memorial Fund.

Janet was born June 14, 1939 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and
Hazel (Grell) Meloy. She lived in Clear Lake and Mason City most of her life.
Janet married Morton Grimm on Nov. 25, 1955. He died in 1979. She worked at
Mode O' Day in Mason City, E.F. Johnson in Clear Lake, Sperry Univac/ Unisys,
Clear Lake, and the Mile Post 194 Cafe in Clear Lake.

Janet married Bill Vernon on Aug. 22, 1987. She continued to work at the Mile
Post 194 where she was known for her homemade pies, cinnamon rolls and
biscuits. They moved to Oklahoma in 1994.

Janet loved nature, plants, people, cooking, baking and candy making. She never
complained about anything and very much loved her family and friends. Janet
was a very hard worker. Special to Janet was writing letters and receiving mail
and her dog, "Peaches."

Janet is survived by her husband, Bill Vernon, Stroud, Okla.; three children,
Morton E. Grimm Jr. and his wife, Barb, Mason City, Sheila O. Rapp and her
husband, Donald, Garner, Iowa and Bunnie Winters and her husband, Jim, Clear
Lake; two grandchildren, Dusty J. Allen, Garner, Iowa and Jim Winters Jr.,
Clear Lake; four step-granddaughters, Pamela Krick and her husband, Fred, Des
Moines, Iowa, Trish Tiedemann and her husband, Brad, Mason City, Brandy Purvis
and her husband, Bob, Grand Junction, Iowa, and Ashley Kiss and her husband,
Boris, Garner; sisters, Marlys Stevens and her husband, Richard, Utah, and
Juanita Speiss Sr. and her husband, Jim, Mankato, Minn.; brother-in-law, Gus
Vernon and his wife, Peggy, Sayre, Okla.; sister-in-law, Mae Vaughn, Locust
Grove, Okla.; special aunt, Arlys VanNote, Garner; and special "sisters" Doris
Anderson ("her Swamper LeRoy"), Fertile, Iowa, Blanche Schultz, Fertile, and
Cheri Grimm, Northwood, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

Janet was preceded in death by her father; mother; first husband, Morton Grimm;
infant brother, Donald and sister, Delores Maynard.
