Lucille Maxine Phillips, 85, of Mason City, Iowa, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 at
the Heritage Care Center, Mason City. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan.
30, at the First Baptist Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Ron Stein
officiating. Interment was in Lincoln Township Cemetery. Memorials may be given
to the Lucille Phillips Memorial Fund.
Lucille was born April 17, 1918 in Mason City the daughter of Nels and Hazel
(Overturf) Ouverson. She was raised in Fertile, Iowa moving to Mason City at the
age of 17 where she graduated from Mason City High School. Lucille married
Milton E. Phillips July 23, 1937 in Mason City. Lucille was a member of the
First Baptist Church, Gildner Group, Good Sam's Camping Club and the Dirty Dozen
Club. Lucille was known for her crazy cake and homemade ice cream and no meal
was complete without a piece of pie and cake. She wrote short stories about
family, camping and nature, especially bird watching. Her favorite form of
expression was poetry and all her writings were laced with her wonderful wit,
but all would agree her highest calling was that of a wise and loving mother and
grandmother.
Lucille is survived by her children, Marilyn S. Hall and husband, Wayne,
Cambridge, Minn., Richard M. Phillips and wife, Sandra, Prior Lake, Minn., Judy
A. Allen and husband, Robert, Mason City; Charles E. Phillips and wife, Karol,
Wichita, Ks.; Bradley K. Phillips and wife, Cynthia, Wichita, brother, Luverne
Ouverson, Mason City; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces
and nephews.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Darlene
Anderson.
