Irene Mildred Miller, 101, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at the I.O.O.F. home,
Mason City, Iowa. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, 11 a.m.,
at Clear Lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rhoda Preston officiating.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, 5 - 7 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel
and then one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at the
Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to Clear Lake United Methodist
Church.

Irene was born Aug. 30, 1906 is Amsberg, West Virginia, the daughter of
Howard C. and Hattie Blanche (Beatty) Wagner.

In 1924 she moved to San Francisco, Calif. and entered the Salvation Army
College for one year. She then moved to Livingston, Mont., Wichita, Kan. and
to Clear Lake, in 1928. Irene married Earl G. Miller July 29, 1928 on a farm in
rural Clear Lake where they lived until moving into town in 1951. She raised
turkeys and flowers.

Irene was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, a 50-year
member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Women and was a member of the
Rebekah Lodge and the Sing and Sew Club since 1928. She read her Bible every
day. Irene enjoyed baking small loaves of bread for the neighborhood kids and
was known for her great waffles.

In August 2006 the State of Iowa honored Irene as a member of Iowa’s elite
class of Centenarians by Governor Chet Culver.

Irene is survived by her brother, Erza Wagner and wife, Angel, Havre, Mont.
and several nieces and nephews.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl G. in 1980; four
brothers, Daniel, Calvin, Carl, and Clinton; and eight sisters, Hallie Golie,
Pauline Winchell, Leona Roper, Viola Smith, Murhl McFadden, Tilitha Green,
Barbara and Lois in infancy.
