Louise J. Ashland, 88, of the I.O.O.F. Home, formerly of Clear Lake, died
Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001 at Zion Lutheran Church,
Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating. Interment followed at the
Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be donated to Zion Lutheran Church, the
I.O.O.F. Home, or Hospice of North Iowa. Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in
charge of the arrangements.

Louise was born April 16, 1913 in Delhi, Iowa, the daughter of William and
Logina (Meiners) Reth. She was united in marriage to Ed Ashland on June 5, 1938
at the Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. They lived on a farm near Clear
Lake, where Louise was a homemaker. She also worked for 14 years as a cook for
several restaurants and businesses in Mason City and Clear Lake. She enjoyed
baking, gardening, quilting, embroidery and other handiwork. Louise moved from
the farm to the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City in 1995. She was an active member
of Zion Lutheran Church, a member of the W.L.A.M. Club in Clear Lake, and a 4-H
Leader in Cerro Gordo County.

Louise is survived by five children: Alice Rasmussen and her husband, Ken, of
Des Moines, Iowa, Richard Ashland and his wife, Susan, of Fridley, Minn., Melvin
Ashland and his wife, Brooke, of Medford, Or., Roger Ashland and his wife,
Cynthia, of Waseca, Minn., and Allan Ashland and his wife, Nancy, of Clear Lake;
sixteen grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters; five brothers; and
many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister.
