Marion Leon Warren, 80, Clear Lake, died Friday Dec. 7, 2001, at the
Muse-Norris Hospice Unit of North Iowa, in Mason City.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 10, at the United Methodist Church,
Clear Lake, Iowa with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial was in the Clear
Lake Cemetery with military graveside honors by the Clear Lake VFW.

The family of Marion Leon Warren has requested that memorial contributions be
made to the youth education programs at the United Methodist Church in Clear
Lake in his memory.

Marion Leon Warren was born July 3, 1921, in Harris, Mo., the son of Albert and
Maude (Wemmer) Warren. Marion attended and received his education in the Milan,
Mo. Schools, graduating from Milan High School. Marion moved to Geneva, Iowa
and worked as a farm hand until he was inducted into the service.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Oct. 30, 1942, at Camp Dodge, Iowa, and
served as an infantryman with the 12th Calvary, and fought in the battles in New
Guinea, Southern Philippines, and the Bismarck Archipelago, during World War II
until his honorable discharge as SGT. On Sept. 12, 1945, at Chickasha, Ok.
Marion received the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign
Ribbon, three Battle Service Stars, and the Combat Inf. Badge.

He was united in marriage to Velma Roegner on Nov. 9, 1942, in Unionville, Mo.

After his honorable discharge from service, he worked as a mechanic in Hampton,
Iowa, before moving to Clear Lake, and working for the Clear Lake School
District as a custodian for 35 years. After his retirement as a custodian
Marion worked full time for Secory Plumbing in Clear Lake until his retirement.

Marion¹s hobbies were fishing, gardening, and visiting with family and friends.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, and the I.O.O.F. in
Mason City.

Warren is survived by his wife, Velma Warren, of Clear Lake; son, Dennis Warren,
Ankeny, Iowa; two grandchildren, Jeff Warren and his wife, Tara, Woodbury,
Minn., and Kim Warren and her fiancé, Chris Compton, Farmington Hills, Mich., as
well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sam Warren, Glen Warren, and
Orville Warren; and one sister, Ellen Rainbolt.
