Donald L. Simmer Sr., 91, of Clear Lake, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998 at his
home.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday), Jan. 28, at 1 p.m. at Zion
Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating.

Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake. The family suggests
memorials to the Donald L. Simmer Sr. Memorial Fund.

Donald was born May 27, 1916 in Jamaica, Iowa, the son of William and
Gertrude (Garland) Simmer. He attended school in Jamaica, Cooper and then
Perry, Iowa.

On Nov. 28, 1938 Donald married Margaret Rosander in Adel, Iowa. He worked at
Weise Plowing factory in Perry. He later worked for his father in law doing
custom farming, they then moved to Welcome, Minn., where he farmed. They moved
to Dolliver, Iowa where he drove truck for Albert Hardecops. They moved to
Clear Lake in 1958. He worked for Allied Mills as a truck driver until his
retirement in 1976.

Donald enjoyed feeding the bird, watching the squirrels and playing with his
dog, Teddy. He was a member of the Grain Miller Teamster Union.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Simmer, Clear Lake; 13 children, Donald
Simmer Jr., and his wife, Paula, Prestcott, Iowa, Karen Olinger, Clear Lake,
Larry Simmer, Lake Mills, Dixie Haugen and her husband, Larry, Clear Lake,
Richard Simmer, Santa Anna, Calif., Robert Simmer and his wife, Colleen, Clear
lake, Paul Simmer, Clear Lake, Dennis Simmer, Clear Lake Sandy Rapp, Mason
City, Francis Simmer and his special friend, Shelley Paulsen, Ventura, Dale
Simmer and his wife, Brenda, Ventura, Tim Simmer, Clear Lake and Tom Simmer
and his wife, Michelle, Clear Lake; 34 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;
one brother, William Simmer and his wife, Velma, Perry, Iowa; five sisters,
Doris Fesslar, Perry, Marilyn Mansfield, Perry, Berdine Bingold, Perry, Donna
Rae Kadolph and her husband, Dallas, Eldora, Iowa and Bernita Brooks, Big
Lake, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Fredrick Simmer; son-in-law,
Merle Olinger; one sister, Maretta (Babe) Gregg; and one granddaughter, Grace
