Albert “Al” Lawrence Marsh, 85, of 1406 2nd Ave North, Clear Lake, died
Saturday. Feb. 28, 2009 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 5, 10:30 a.m., at the United
Methodist Church, 508 2nd Ave. North, Clear Lake with the Rev. Diana Hoover
officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors
provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Visitation will be Wednesday, 4 - 7 p.m., at
the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th St, Clear Lake with a Masonic
service at 6:30 p.m.

Al was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Nevada, Iowa, the son of John M. and Maude
(Olinger) Marsh. Al graduated from Ventura High School in 1941. He farmed with
his father.

Al served in the United States Army during WWII. Following his discharge
from service Al returned to Clear Lake and married Betty Hyde on Aug. 11, 1946
at the United Methodist Church in Mason City, Iowa.

He farmed in the Clear Lake area for over 35 years. He later worked at the
Cerro Gordo Courthouse in the maintenance department for 15 years.

Al enjoyed fishing and gardening, playing cards and going to fairs. He was
known for his huge tomato plants, grape vines, and his strawberry patch. He was
a member of the Clear Lake V.F.W., Masonic Lodge, Mason City and was Past Master
of Varity Masonic Lodge # 250, Clear Lake.

Al is survived by his five children, Jim Marsh, Clear Lake, Jerry (Pamela)
Marsh, Norwalk, Iowa, Robert Marsh (Sharon), Clear Lake, Cheryl (Jeff) Goodman,
Andover, Minn., Susan Thompson and her companion, Mike, Jesup, Iowa; 17
grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Buck, Mason City; and
brother, Dale (Arlene) Marsh, Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty.
