Virginia Kathryn "Katie" MASON, 87, of Clear Lake, formerly of Swaledale, died Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 2, 2006, at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Swaledale, with Reverend Dennis GANZ officiating. According to her wishes there will be no public visitation.

The family of Virginia Kathryn Mason has requested that memorial contributions be made to Crises Intervention Service in her memory. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street Clear Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Virginia Kathryn MASON was born on January 29, 1919, in Swaledale, the daughter of Elmer "Doc" E. and Alice (GILL) MASON. She was baptized at the Swaledale Baptist Church in 1930, and moved from Swaledale to Clear Lake at the age of 11. She attended and received her education in the Clear School system, graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1936. Katie also graduated from the X-Ray Technical School at the St. Vincent Hospital in Sioux City.

Katie began her career as an X-Ray technician at the Mercy Hospital in Mason City working for Mercy Hospital for 20 years. Katie also worked as a bookkeeper for Opportunity Village in Clear Lake for 12 years until her retirement in 1982.

After her retirement, she enjoyed going to peoples homes and reading to them. In her earlier years, Katie enjoyed reading, playing cards, was an avid fisher, and traveling, and in her later years, she continued to enjoy reading, and volunteering for the nursing home, AEA, and Opportunity Village.

She was a former member of Swaledale Baptist Church, and a current member of the Christian Church in Clear Lake, and the Clear Lake Card Club.

Left to cherish her memory is several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Richard, Frank, and Vincent MASON, and four sisters; Genevieve INGHAM, Bernice ENGLAND, Maxine BRADLEY, and Jeanette McKEE.
