George W. COGSWELL, pensioned conductor on the Rock Island, passed away Monday morning at seven thirty at the State Hospital at Independence. Funeral services are being held at Swaledale today, Wednesday, at one thirty.

Mr. COGSWELL was placed on the Rock Island pension list this past February but his illness dated from some months previous to that time. He was taken to the hospital at Iowa City where he was treated for Bright's disease but his mental condition required his removal to the Independence hospital.

In October his condition grew worse and his wife who had gone to California with their son was notified and she returned at once and remained near, him until the end.

Besides his wife and son Harold, a brother Ben COGSWELL of Clarion, conductor on the C. G. W., survives.

The deceased was born Dec. 31, 1866 at Nelson, Ill. He entered the employ of tha B. C. R. & N. as brakeman on Sept. 3, 1890 and received his promotion to conductor on May 29, 1896. For many years he lived with his family at Titonka and for the past, three years lived at Estherville.

NOTE: Interment was made at Pleasant Valley Township Cemetery, rural Swaledale, Iowa.
