CLEAR LAKE - Donald Francis Ott, 77, formerly of Clear Lake, died Saturday (April 6, 2002) in Las Vegas, Nev.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake with the Rev. Fred Lewis of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake officiating.
Memorials may be directed to the Donald F. Ott Memorial Fund.
Donald was born June 21, 1924, in Clear Lake, the son of Ralph and Ethel (Howard) Ott. After his mother died when he was six years old, his father remarried Nettie Howard. Donald and his four younger brothers and sisters felt lucky to also have her join their lives as their mother.
He attended school in Clear Lake.
Donald entered the U.S. Navy Sept 11, 1942, and served overseas during World War II. After he was discharged Feb. 22, 1946, he moved back to Clear Lake.
Donald married Verna Pringnitz Oct. 22, 1947, at the Liberty Methodist Church, Klemme. They farmed in the Clear Lake area. Later, he was a house contractor and professional truck driver. He later moved to California and Laughlin, Nev. He enjoyed traveling.
Donald is survived by four children, Terry Ott, Fairbanks, Alaska, Vickey Ott, Bland, Mo., Rick Ott and his wife, Linda, and their two children, Angela and Brady Ott, Clear Lake, and Rod "Rock" Ott and his wife, Barb, Clear Lake; four brothers and sisters, Dorothy Short and her husband, Bill, Garner, John "Jack" Ott and his wife, Eunice, Lakeville, Minn., Margaret "Maggie" Thompson and her husband, Earl, Battlefield, Mo., and Ralph "Babe" Ott and his wife, Jackie, Victoria, Minn.; and his former wife, Verna Ott, Clear Lake.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents.
