ELSIE MILLER BUSSA
CLEAR LAKE - Elsie Miller Bussa, 95, Clear Lake, died Friday (Sept. 21, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, and then one hour before the service on Tuesday at the church. Family suggests memorials to the Clear Lake United Methodist Church or the I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City.
Elsie was born Jan. 22, 1906, in Windom, Minn., the daughter of Royal and Ida (Whiteman) Miller. She attended rural school in Cerro Gordo County, graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1924 and in 1956 graduated from Mason City Junior College. Elsie taught country school at the following sites: Union 1, 1924-26, Mt. Vernon 9, 1926-28, Mt. Vernon 3, 1928-29, Home 1929-30, North Number 3 Worth County 1930-32, Owen Number 3 Cerro Gordo, 1932-33, Mt. Vernon Number 3, 1936-43, Mt. Vernon Number 2, 1943-44, Lincoln Number 3, 1944-47, Mt. Vernon Number 4, 1947-53, Thornton, 1953-1968 and continued to tutor at her home to her middle-80s. On Nov. 24, 1943, she married Arthur D. Bussa at the Miller family farm south of Clear Lake.
She enjoyed crocheting, watching the birds in her yard, playing the violin and piano accordion. Elsie was a member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Library Reading Club and the Sing and Sew Club.
She is survived by a sister, Eva Kimble, Mason City; brother-in-law, Charles Lowe, Clear Lake; sister-in-law, Irene Miller, Clear Lake; many nieces and nephews and a close friend, Shirley Reynolds, Mason City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers, Earl, Burrel, Lloyd, Oran and LeRoy Miller; and two sisters, Addie Hanley and Myrtle Lowe.
