Private Harvey WYNN of Co. I, 7th Infantry, Fort Lewis, Wash., left Saturday morning after spending a three-weeks furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer WYNN, 550 Third street northwest. His parents accompanied him as far as Minneapolis. They will visit in St. Paul.

Harvey WYNN now stationed in North Africa, has been promoted to the rank of corporal, he informed his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer WYNN of St. Paul, formerly of Mason City. This was the first word that they had received from him in two months.

His Officer Writes Letter From Italy

Cpl. Harvey WYNN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer WYNN, now of St. Paul, was mentioned in a special letter to his mother written from the Anzio beachhead by the commander of his company. Wrote the commander:

"As Cpl. WYNN'S company commander I wish to take this opportunity of writing you to let you know what splendid work he has been doing on the Anzio beachhead.

"Cpl. WYNN has always exhibited fine leadership and personal courage. He is liked and respected by his drivers, and has the confidence of all men in the company. During these trying days we need men of his caliber and it is a pleasure to acknowledge the splendid work he has done.

"I know you will be glad to hear of his excellent service and to know that he is well and in good health."

Cpl. WYNN is in the transportation department of the army. He entered the service from Mason City in September, 1940.

CPL. WYNN KILLED in ACTION in FRANCE on SEPTEMBER 27

Parents Formerly of Mason City Now Live in St. Paul, Minn.

Cpl. Harvey WYNN was killed in action somewhere in France on Sept. 27, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer WYNN of St. Paul, formerly of Mason City.

Cpl. WYNN had been overseas since September, 1942.

At the time he was in action at the Anzio beachhead his mother received a letter written by his company commander praising him for his part in the invasion.

He enlisted for service in September, 1940, going from Mason City to Fort Lewis, Wash, entering in the Company I infantry.

Besides his parents, he is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Lawrence ESPINOSA, Mason City, Larene, at home, and a brother, Lavern, also at home.

CPL. WYNN MEMORIAL SERVICES at CENTRAL LUTHERAN SUNDAY

Son of Former Mason Cityans Was Killed in France on Sept. 27

Memorial service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Central Lutheran church for Cpl. Harvey WYNN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer WYNN of St. Paul, Minn., formerly of Mason City, with the Rev. M. O. LEE officiating. Cpl. WYNN was killed in action in France Sept. 27.

On Sept. 18 Mr. and Mrs. WYNN received a telegram from the war department stating that their son was wounded in action on Aug. 17. Later 3 letters from Harvey came telling them that he was all right. Then on Oct. 26 a telegram informed them that their son had been killed in France on Sept. 27.

Cpl. WYNN was in the transportation department of the army, and had been stationed in Africa and Italy before going to France. He was 26 years old on Sept. 8.

Besides his parents he is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Lawrence ESPINOSA, Mason City, Loreen at home and a brother, LaVern, at home.

SERVICE HELD FOR CPL. WYNN

The Rev. M. O. Lee Delivers Sermon

"Is the life I am living worth a soldier's dying for? Is it worth my Lord's having died for? Am I really on God's side in every area of my life so that the war is being won in my own sphere?

"Am I fighting honestly and bravely against evil wherever I see it, overcoming it with honesty, courage and prayer?"

Those questions, the Rev. M. O. LEE, pastor of the Central Lutheran church, in memorial services for Cpl. Harvey WYNN Sunday afternoon, said each one of us might answer in seeing that our servicemen have not died in vain.

"We cannot understand our sorrow now," said Mr. LEE. "But persistent companionship with God will be the answer to many of our anxieties. Louise Haskins wrote, 'I said to the man who stood at the gate of years: Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown, and he replied, Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That will be to you better light and safer than a known way.'

"That," said Mr. LEE, "is the answer - your hand in God's hand - the loving, kind, sympathetic hand of God who leads all who will follow."

Mrs. Harold WOLFE sang "The Lord Is My Shepherd," by Liddle, and "From Sense to Soul," with Mrs. O. C. SORLIEN accompanying.

Cpl. WYNN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer WYNN, now of St. Paul, was killed in action in France on Sept. 27.
