ELMER STRICKER MEMORIAL HELD AT CHURCH HERE

Hinz Speaks on "Our Sure Hope of Life Eternal"

Memorial services for Pfc. Elmer STRICKER, killed in action on Luzon on May 7, were held Sunday afternoon at the Bethlehem Lutheran church, with the Rev. C. A. HINZ, pastor of the church, officiating.

Mr. HINZ in his sermon "Our Sure Hope of Life Eternal," pointed out that the memory verse of Pfc. STRICKER selected for him at his confirmation at Algona Trinity Lutheran church in 1936, contained the truths which portray sure hope of eternal life, and were applicable to the life as lived by Pfc. STRICKER.

"Today it is my object to rededicate this same verse which was dedicated to his life's journey, to his memory," said the pastor. "'My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me; and I give unto them ternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.; Full of comfort, full of love and full of divine mercy, it is suitable to the occasion.

"Elmer's is the distinguished honor of having served, and sacrificed his life for his country. Above all, we cherish the blessed hope that the gracious Savior, who promised Elmer 'I give unto My sheep eternal life,' permitted nothing to 'pluck him out of His hand.'"

During the services the Gold star was placed in the service flag of the church and the army and navy commission, "In Memoriam," was presented to his parents. Standard bearers were Lt. Arthur ASHLAND and Chief Electrician A. A. HOLTHUS, here on leave.

Pfc. STRICKER came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gottfried STRICKER, of Rudd, to the vicinity of Clear Lake in 1942. He entered the service last September and was in training at Camp Fannin, Tex., until January. After spending a 5-day furlough with his parents, he returned to duty at Fort Ord, Cal., and was shipped out to the Pacific war theater in mid-February.

He was buried in the U. S. armed forces cemetery No. 2, located in Manila, grave number 603 in row 5, according to a letter his parents received from his army chaplain.

Besides his parents, he is survived by 2 sisters and 2 brothers: Mrs. Eleanor MILLER, Mrs. Jean FRASER, Jack and Robert.
