in ITALY, OCT. 19Had Previously Been Reported Missing in Action on That Date
Staff Sgt. Andrew NORDAHL was killed in action in Italy on Oct. 19, according to a telegram sent by the war department to his mother, Mrs. Laura NORDAHL, Mason City.
Sgt. NORDAHL had been back in action after having recovered from wounds received in action last August in Italy with Gen. Mark Clark's 5th army. Early in November he had been reported missing in action on the date he has now been reported killed.
Sgt. NORDAHL joined the national guard in the fall of 1940 and left Mason City with them in February, 1941. He went overseas a year later, receiving further training in Ireland and then going to England and north Africa. He had been awarded the purple heart and the good conduct medal.
Besides his mother he is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Lewis FRANSEN and Mrs. Paul FRANSEN, both of Mason City; 2 brothers, Palmer NORDAHL of Albert Lea, Minn., and Elmer NORDAHL of Emmons, Minn. His father, Andrew NORDAHL, Sr., lives at Emmons.
