Cpl Arnold Lavin Killed in Action in Taegu Push

Cpl. Arnold J. LAVIN, 32, brother of Edward NEWMAN, 935 Ky. S. E., with whom he made his home, was killed in action Sept. 16, in the push near Taegu [South Korea], according to word received here.

He had been in service since leaving Mason City with the national guard for Camp Claiborne in World war II. At that time he went with the local company to Ireland, England, the African campaign and through the Italian campaign.

A prisoner of war for 27 months in Germany, he was released from Stalag 2-B in 1945. He had 40 months of overseas service when he re-enlisted 8 months after his liberation. In World war II he was awarded the American Defense and ETO ribbons.

Surviving are 3 brothers, Edward A. NEWMAN and Hector NEWMAN, Mason City, and William NEWMAN, Clear Lake, and two sisters, Mrs. Jim DOUCELLTE, Minneapolis, and Mrs. Beno WOODS, Grafton, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents.
