Pfc. James H. Johnson
Killed by Enemy FireCharles City - Pfc. James H. JOHNSN, of Mason City, and formerly of Charles City, was killed in action by enemy fire near Oplas Newa Vizcaya, Luzon, Philippine Islands, on July 4, according to a message received by his wife at Mason City, from the war department. JOHNSON entered the army Sept. 28, 1944, taking his training at Camp Fannin, Tex., and left for overseas duty in February, 1945. His only furlough was in January at which time he saw his son, 3 weeks old.
He is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn NUCHRING, of Rockwell, and 3 children, Nadine, 4, Ronald, 2, and Dennis, 6 months, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. JOHNSON, of Mason City. Pfc. JOHNSON was a cousin of Richard WALTERS of Charles City, and is well known in and around Charles City, having been employed at the Oliver Corporation her for some time before leaving for Mason City fo induction into the army.
He was a member of the local C. I. O. Pfc. JOHNSON was serving in the 128th infantry, 32nd division in northern Luzon when he was killed by a Jap sniper.
