CLEAR LAKE — Charles Raymond YUHOUSE, 87, of 809 Sixth Place N., Clear Lake, died Saturday (Nov. 24, 2007) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A time of gathering with family and friends will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. Inurnment with military honors will be held at a later time in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Family suggests memorials to the Charles Raymond YUHOUSE Memorial Fund.

Charles was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Mason City, the son of John and Georgia Alta (COLLINS) YUHOUSE. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1938.

He worked for A&P Grocery in Mason City. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served during World War II. Following the service he moved back to Mason City and worked for A&P Grocery and later was transferred to Cedar Falls as store manager.

He married Norma TRELOAR June 29, 1947, in Albert Lea, Minn., and in 1950 they moved to Clear Lake, where he worked for Northern Natural Gas until he retired in 1982.

He enjoyed his many fishing trips to Canada, gardening, especially sharing his tomatoes with friends, and volunteering at Opportunity Village with help planting seeds in the spring. He was well known for his bean soup that he would make during a blizzard and go around and share with his friends.

After his retirement he enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona and his many trips over to the Mississippi River to be with his family.

He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 0222.

Charles is survived by his wife, Norma YUHOUSE, of Clear Lake; daughter Sandra WOLFE and her husband, Robert, of Clear Lake; son Jim YUHOUSE and his wife, Sally, of Harpers Ferry; two brothers, Lavern YUHOUSE and Robert YUHOUSE and his wife, Dixie; and sister, Joanne ROLLAND and her husband, Dave, all of St. Paul, Minn.; brother-in-law, Tom TRELOAR and his wife, Pat, and sister-in-law Betty GRELL, all of Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother George YUHOUSE, sister Amy EDRISS and her husband, Roland, and a brother-in-law, Reuben GRELL.
