Costello, past president of packing house union, dies

Arthur J. COSTELLO, 58, past president of the United Packing House Workers Local Union 28, an office he held for 10 years, died suddenly Saturday evening [July 01] at a Mason City hospital.

He had lived in Mason City 31 years and made his home at 15 W. State.

Mr. COSTELLO was born March 19, 1904, at Petersville, son of James and Anna (WAGNER) COSTELLO. He was married to Miss Marguerite KRUG, of Plymouth, at Bismark, N.D., Aug. 10, 1927.

For many years he was a salesman for the Reynolds Tobacco Co. He came to Mason City in 1931 and was employed at the Jacob E. DECKER & Sons packing plant.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife, his mother, Anna COSTELLO, Davenport; two brothers, James and Leonard COSTELLO, Davenport; and a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Anna Marie) BOLDIE, Davenport. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

Funeral services were scheduled at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, the Rev. James C. MILOTA, assistant pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plymouth [Oakwood] Cemetery. The parish Rosary was set for 8 p.m. Monday at the Hogan-McKee Colonial Chapel.

A. J. Costello funeral held

Requiem high Mass was celebrated for Arthur J. COTELLO, 58, Tuesday at the Holy Family Catholic Church. The Rev. James C. MILOTA, assistant pastor, was celebrant and gave the sermon.

Crossbearer was Allan DiMARCO; acolytes, Robert SHANNON and Jerry HANSON; thurifer, Francis SHANNON; and censer bearer, Tim MANSON. The Holy Family School Choir sang the Mass. Kathleen FRANK was organist.

Ushers at the church were Leon COGGINS and Edward KOLDA.

Pallbearers were Douglas McMANNES, Charles KRANTZ, Merle LARSON, William SHANNON, Leo ESPINOSA and Vernon BELSETH.

Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Plymouth. The Hogan-McKee Colonial Funeral Home was in charge.
