DEATH NOTICES

BARNES, Thomas A., 89, died at his home at Plymouth Christmas night, following a long illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church at Plymouth with the Rev. P. C. COLLISTER in charges. Burial will be at the Plymouth [Oakwood] cemetery. The Major funeral home in charge.

Thomas A. Barnes, Plymouth Resident Since 1875, Dies
Funeral Tuesday Afternoon at 2 in Methodist Church

Thomas A. BARNES, 89, prominent in the community of Plymouth for more than 67 years, died at his home in Plymouth Christmas night, following a long illness. He had resided at Plymouth since 1875, having moved there from Fertile.

Mr. BARNES was born at Allegheny, Cattaraugus county, N. Y., Dec. 31, 1852, the son of Joseph and Mary BARNES. His mother preceded in death when he was four years of age.

Arriving in Mason City in 1873, Mr. BARNES went to Fertile for two years then moved to Plymouth, where he found employement with F. W. LANE, lumberman and carpenter. He had helped in the erection of the Free Methodist church, the old frame schoolhouse, R. H. TODD'S mill at Rock Falls, the WAREHAM hotel in Plymouth and the Albert Lea elevator.

Later he associated himself with Truman HILL in the wagon making and repair business about 1884 and the firm of HILL and BARNES carried on a thriving business for several years, later adding furniture and hardware and undertaking. For a long term of eyars, Mr. BARNES served as alderman on the town council of Plymouth.

He was married to Miss Eliza WING of New York and three children were born to this union, Howard, who died at 7 years of age, Marcia and Edith. He was preceded in death by his first wife and later remarried in 1907.

Surviving are his wife of Plymouth, two daughters, Mrs. Asker GOLDTHORPE, St. Clouc, Minn., and Mrs. Ross COOPER, Kensett, and a sister, Miss Elvia BARNES, and a brother, Walson BARNES, both of Allegheny, N. Y.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church at Plymouth, with the Rev. P. C. COLLISTER in charge. Burial will be at the Plymouth [Oakwood] cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Major funeral home until Tuesday morning.
