Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery-Mason City, with full military honors provided by members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Memorials may be directed to the family in memory of Gene.

Gene was born June 3, 1948, in Mason City, the son of Donald and Mary Agnes (REYNOLDS) KAYE. Donald passed away when Gene was a young child, and he was later adopted by George Cecil RHEINGANS. He graduated from Mason City High School, then enlisted in the United States Navy in 1967. He was injured during his time in the service and was honorably discharged in 1968.

Gene married Barbara WICK on May 9, 1970, and to this union two children were born. They divorced 10 years later and Gene never remarried.

Gene attended junior college in California before moving back to Iowa to work at Blakesly as a welder. He also worked at Sugarbeet before retiring at his last job at Alliant Energy.

In his sparetime, Gene loved to race cars and motorcycles. He was known as a "people person" that loved to meet new people, whether it be sitting around the fire talking while on a camping trip, or playing pool. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Gene was an 18-year member of the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club and ABATE of Iowa.

He is survived by his children, Tory (Heather) RHEINGANS, of Grafton, and Brenda SASSE, of Two Rivers, Wis.; his grandchildren, Hunter SASSE and Mallory and Camryn RHEINGANS; his brothers, George (Diana) RHEINGANS, of Mason City, and John (Rose) RHEINGANS, of Mason City; his niece, Misty (Michael) HOLMES, of Waterloo; and many other extended family and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents.
