Funeral services for Laura Caroline ABENDROTH, 87, who died Saturday at a Mason City nursing home, were held Monday afternoon at the Major Memorial Chapel. Helen H. SHIPLEY, reader in the First Church of Christ, Scientiest, officiated. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.
Miss ABENDROTH was born Feb. 20, 1875, near Kensett, daughter of Carl Walter and Clara (KANENBERG) ABENDROTH. The family moved to Mason City when she was a young girl.
She was empolyed by the T. R. Glanville Co., which was located at the site of McClellan's store. Later she was manager of the silk department at Damon-Igou store many years. She retired in 1929, to care for her father.
Miss ABENDROTH was a charter member of the Queen Esther Class of the Methodist Church. She later joined the First Church of Christ, Scientist, of which she was a member at the time of her death.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Paul P. (Lillian) SMOCK, Mitchell, S.D. There are also many nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Lyman (Arleen) HARRIS, Mrs. Max (Margaret) RILEY, Charlotte E. BLUMENSTIEL, Mrs. Karl (Eleanor) JOHANNSEN, Mrs. Wallace (Laura Jean) ROSE, Harold D. IKENBERRY, Robert V. IKENBERRY, Mrs. John (Evelyn) SIMON, Carl ABENDROUTH, all of Mason City, and Mrs. Alfred (Arvilla) BENBOW, Fort Madison, and Mrs. Merle SORENSON, Pierre, S.D.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter, in 1903, and by a sister, Mrs. Carl (Adeline) BLUMENSTIEL, in 1932, and a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Emma) IKENBERRY in 1940.
