Edward BERNHARDT, 80, of Plymouth, died Monday (Oct. 16, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Plymouth. Burial will be at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and one hour before services at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
Edward was born June 20, 1920, in Titonka, the son of Fred and Mary (SMIEDER) BERNHARDT. He was united in marriage to Violet GEDVILLE on Jan. 24, 1942, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City.
Edward entered into the United States Army on Aug. 5, 1942, and served as an Airplane Armorer Gunner during World War II. He was honorably discharged on July 23, 1945, after receiving 12 Bronze Stars, and an Air Medal, a Distinguished Flying Cross and a Good Conduct Medal.
Edward returned to the Plymouth area to farm, which he did until his retirement. For 15 years he was an avid fisherman at the cabin he and Violet shared at Lake Kabetogama.
Edward is survived by his wife, Violet, of Plymouth; three sons, David BERNHARDT and his wife, Jeanne, of Plymouth, Daryl BERNHARDT of Del City, Okla., and Mark BERNHARDT and his wife, Shirley, of Auburn, Mich.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred BERNHARDT and his wife, Betty, of Mason City; and one sister, Ruth CHRISTIANSEN and her husband, Clyndon, of Manly.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents; and six brothers and sisters.
