Velma I. WILEY, 75, of 1207 Third St. N.E., Apt. 7, passed away Tuesday [Oct. 22, 1996] at her home.

Funeral services will held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 1996, at Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, with Pastor Sharon BETSWORTH of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Rockwell Cemetery, Rockwell. There will be a lunch served at the Rockwell Community Center following interment.

Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home, and will continue from 9 a.m. on Friday until time of services.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Velma I. WILEY Memorial Fund.

Velma was born Feb. 5, 1921, the daughter of Everett and Bertha (DADY) HAGEMAN in Syracuse, N.Y.

In 1938, Velma graduated from Diagonal High School in Diagonal.

After graduating, she moved to Leon, where she was employed by the Leon Telephone Company as a switchboard operator.

On July 21, 1958, Velma was united in marriage to Emmett WILEY in Idaho Springs, Colo. The couple then moved to Rockwell, where they resided for about 30 years. She then moved to Hampton.

Velma enjoyed shopping and was quite the bargain hunter. Houseplants flourished under her care. Being an avid bird watcher, she was able to identify several species.

She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Velma is survived by two sons, Larry and his wife, Connie MILLER, of Mason City, and Darwin Alan and his wife, Betty MILLER, of Fort Madison; one stepson, Gary and his wife, Doris WILEY, of Dallas, Texas; one stepdaughter, Dr. and Mrs. Robert (Jean) GOLLY, of Dallas, Texas; five sisters, Vera CREW of Omaha, Neb.; Veretta CAMPBELL of Springback, Ariz.; Donna DIEWOLD of Burlington; Cleo KOUNS of Kansas City, Mo., and Joan BOYD of Afton; one brother, Doyle HAGEMAN of Winterset; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emmett WILEY, on Nov. 24, 1985; and one sister, Vanetta McNUTT.
