Oliver W. Cope was born on January 4, 1857 in Marshall County, Iowa, died May 17, 1939 in Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. His parents were Joseph and Sarah (Brown) Cope.
"Oliver W. Cope, Long Time Lake Resident, Dies After Stroke
Clear Lake-- Oliver W. Cope, harnes maker in Clear Lake for many years, died Wednesday evening following a stroke suffered several days ago. For many years Mr. Cope operated a harness shop on West Main street, later engaging in farm work for several seasons. He was never married and lived with his mother until her death some years ago. One brother, Eugene, is believed to live in Ruthven. No funeral arrangements have been made. The body is at Williams funeral home.

Funeral Held for Oliver W. Cope, 82; Brother Survives
Clear Lake--Funeral services for Oliver W. Cope, 82, long time resident of Clear Lake and vicinity, were held at Williams funeral home Saturday afternoon. The Rev. J. B. Calhoun conducted the service and burial was in Clear Lake cemetrry. Pallbearers were William McGowan, C. E. Geist, T. E. Sondrol, C. F. Pinckney, Gordon Jenson and Arthur Johnson.
Mr. Cope was born Jan. 4, 1857, at Marshalltown, the son of Joseph and Sarah Cope. He was a harnessmaker by trade and for many years kept a harness shop on Main street, living with his mother until her death.
Mr. Cope is survived by one brother, E. G. Cope, Ruthven, who attended the funeral."
