Phyllis E. Bombella, 87, of 320 S. York Ave., Mason City, Iowa died Wednesday, February 4, 1998, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East. A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Carl A. Ries officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Phyllis E. Bombella was born January 26, 1911, in Canby, Minnesota, the daughter of William Frederick and Rosella (Carothers) Badker. She was the fifth of eight children. Phyllis grew up in Mason City and attended Mason City schools. She worked at Mason City Tent and Awning for many years, and then worked at Como Photos until her marriage.

She married John Bombella in December 1947 at Chicago, Ill. She enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening and dancing. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include one son of Evansdale; two daughters of Mason City; one grandson of Evansdale; one sister, Calla Cahill of Mason City; one brother, Merle Badker and his wife, Helen of Vesper, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters: Lola Lunde, Marie Stille, and Bernice Hyde; and two brothers: Roy and Kenneth Badker.

Found in the 1920 census at Concord, Hancock, IA w/ parents living at Gilbert farm. William Badker 42, Jennie (Rosella) Badker 40, Roy Badker 17, Mary Badker 14, Merlin Badker 12[13], Kenneth Badker 10, Phyllis Badker 8, Lola Badker 6, Bernice Badker 3 yrs 1 month.

Found in the 1925 & 1930 censuses living at Mason City, Cerro Gordo, Iowa with parents: 1925: Wm Badker 47, Jennie Badker 45, Marie Badker 20, Kenneth Badker 15, Phyllis Badker 14, Lola Badker 11, Merlin Badker 18, Bernice Badker 9, Talla Badker 4, Garrett Chapman 29.

1930: William Bodker 52, Jennie Bodker 50, Kenneth Bodker 21, Phyllis E Bodker 19, Lala J Bodker 16, Bennie A Bodker 13, Calla J Bodger 9.
