MASON CITY — Cathorine "Katie" P. UECKERT, 83, of 150 S. Grover, died Thursday (May 26, 2005) at Good Shepherd Care Center, Mason City.

Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hanford Community Church, 12411 Spruce Ave., rural Mason City, with the Rev. Mark Culham officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Cathorine "Katie" UECKERT Memorial Fund.

Cathorine "Katie" P. UECKERT was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Mason City, the daughter of Ralph M. and Beryl L. (SQUIER) PATTON.

Katie attended Portland No.7 rural country school. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1940. Katie graduated with her associate's degree from Mason City Junior College, then graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor's degree in teaching. Katie specialized in teaching special education and talented and gifted students. She taught for 22 years in Iowa and Nebraska.

Katie was united in marriage to Lawrence K. UECKERT in 1961, in Des Moines, Iowa. Together they owned and operated a grain and hog farm in Marquette, Neb. They also owned Clu's Flower Shop and Greenhouse in West Point, Neb. Lawrence died in 1977.

Between 1988 and 1999, Katie cared for special kids in her home in Des Moines, later moving back to Mason City in 1999.

Katie enjoyed bird watching, duplicate bridge, and reading.

Katie is survived by her children; Paul Ralph (Jane) WINFIELD, of Arnold, Neb., Leigh (Kathleen) WINFIELD, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Gary L. (Rhonda) WINFIELD, of North Dakota; two sisters: Patricia FULLERTON, of Mason City, and Ruth (Raymond) SCOTT, of Mason City, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Katie is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Kurt WINFIELD; sisters, Lois ELFORD and Louise GRUIS.
