Tuesday, May 24, 2005MASON CITY — Lawrence "Larry" ROBINSON, 85, of Mason City, died Saturday (May 21, 2005) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 Willowbrook Drive, with the Rev. Terry Hamilton-Poore officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army Adult Day Care Program or the Mason City Community Theatre.
Lawrence ROBINSON was born Oct. 16, 1919, the son of Guernsey and Mary (BLEN) ROBINSON in Des Moines. He graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1937 and attended Drake University.
Lawrence was united in marriage to Dorothy Jean BEVERIDGE in Des Moines, Iowa. He served his country in the Army Air Corps in World War II and was honorably discharged.
Lawrence loved the theater. He was active in the Kendall Playhouse in Des Moines (now known as the Des Moines Community Theatre).
Lawrence and his wife Dorothy moved to Mason City in 1954 and were vital in putting KGLO television (now KIMT) on the air. They were part of the original crew and Lawrence served for many years as the continuity director until his retirement.
Following their move to Mason City, Lawrence and Dorothy were very active members of the Mason City Community Theatre and the First Presbyterian Church. For many years they directed "The Nativity" at the church.
Lawrence and Dorothy loved to travel all over the world. They visited six of the seven continents. They were also active volunteers for KCMR Radio and Lawrence was known for his signature speaking voice.
Survivors include his daughter, E. Dianne CLUTE and husband Ronald D. of Mason City; grandchildren, Dan CLUTE and wife Toni of Clive, Blenn BETTS and husband Robert of Mason City; brothers-in-law, Richard BEVERIDGE of Des Moines and Bob HEMMING of Port Orange, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Jean in 1995; a half-brother, John ROBINSON; and a half-sister, Lucille HITCHCOCK.
