Thursday, December 18, 2008MASON CITY — Marian E. MIDTGAARD, 70, of Mason City, died at her home.

MASON CITY — Marian E. MIDTGAARD, 70, of Mason City, died at her home.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at the Fertile Lutheran Church, 602 W. Washington St., Fertile, with Lay Minister Dave HALVERSON officiating. Inurnment will be held in Brush Point Cemetery, rural Fertile, at a later date.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, and also one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Fertile Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
Marian E. MIDTGAARD was born June 19, 1938, in Forest City, Iowa, the daughter of Melvin and Martha (STORM) MIDTGAARD. She attended school in Fertile and graduated in 1956. She attended Waldorf College and received her bachelor's degree from Northern Colorado University in Greely, Colo.
She began her teaching career in Fenton, Iowa. She then taught in Lake Mills and Minneapolis, Minn., before coming to Mason City where she taught kindergarten at Harding Schools. She had a passion for teaching and nurturing the children; she touched many lives throughout her 39 years of teaching.
She enjoyed traveling and also had a love of music and books. Marian was an avid sports fan who loved cheering on her favorite teams. She was very active in the Christians Women’s Club in Mason City and was also a member of the Fertile Lutheran Church and also an associate member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.
Marian was very social and loved the time she spent with her friends and family. She will always be remembered for her pleasant and cheerful personality and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her siblings, Arden MIDTGAARD and wife, Fern, of Fertile, Ken MIDTGAARD and wife, Mary, of Mason City, and Maynard MIDTGAARD and wife, Madelyn, of Northwood; nieces and nephews, Cindy SCHUBERT and husband, Russ, of Britt, Arlyn MIDTGAARD and wife, Lila, of Fertile, Connie (Mark) HALLAM of Mankato, Minn., Vicky VOGL and husband, Larry, of Cedar Rapids, Debra SJOLINDER and husband, John, of Mason City, Susan POPE of Mason City, Michael MIDTGAARD of Minnetonka, Minn., John MIDTGAARD of Northwood, Tom MIDTGAARD and wife, Ann, of Fort Myers, Fla., David MIDTGAARD of Fertile, Mary BLOOMINGDALE and husband, Bob, of Northwood, Mark MIDTGAARD, of Northwood; and many great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew, James MIDTGAARD.
