Obituary - Dorothy Belle (Billings) Green
September 14, 1933 ~ July 5, 2011Rockwell- Dorothy B. GREEN, 77, of Rockwell formerly of Mason City died Tuesday (July 5, 2011) at Rockwell Community Nursing Home, Rockwell. Memorial Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday (July 8, 2011) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, with Pastor Mark Hicks, officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services on Friday at the funeral chapel.
Memorials may be given to ALS Association, 27001 Agoura Road-Suite 210, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301 or Hospice of North Iowa.
Dorothy Belle GREEN was born September 14, 1933 at Portland, a daughter of Rex and Susie (MORRIS) BILLINGS. She was united in marriage Richard A. GREEN, Sr. on June 15, 1950 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.
Dorothy attended a country school near Portland and was a 1950 graduate of Mason City High School.
Dorothy will be remembered as a very outgoing person. She and her husband Richard traveled to all 50 states. She loved to shop with her best friend O'Donna De ROCK and going to casinos. Her life was centered on her family, she never missed attending her grandchildren’s activities. Dorothy made sure no one ever left her house hungry.
She met the challenges of ALS – head on, and ultimately died as a consequence of the disease.
Dorothy was a member of Praise Community Church, Mason City.
She is survived by, a son, Richard (Denise) GREEN, Jr., Granger; three daughters, Patty GREEN CALLAHAN and Stewart AURINGER, Rockwell, Kathy (Charlie) SCHROEDER, Mason City, Sue (Kirk) KNUDTSON, Kasson, MN., grandchildren, Amy (Dave) Lester, Katie CALLAHAN, and Sarah (Kyle) WEST, great-grandchildren, Alec, Alison, Rowen, Weston, Miah, Christian; a sister, Helen (Jim) TICE, Cedar Falls; brothers, Lyle (Betty) BILLINGS, Kansas City, MO, Glen (Jean) BILLINGS, Coral Gables, FL.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Alan and an infant brother, and a grandson, Hans SCHROEDER.
