Obituary - Bessie (Pappas) Alukos
March 31, 1918 ~ July 10, 2011CHICAGO, IL - Bessie ALUKOS nee PAPPAS, 93, a lifelong resident of the Lincoln Square area of Chicago and a nurse for many years in the Lincoln Square area and Swedish Covenant Hospital, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 10, 2011. Funeral services will be held on 10:00 AM, Monday, July 18, 2011, at Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 2nd St. S.W., with the Rev. Joseph MIROWAKI officiating. Interment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 4-6 PM Sunday evening, July 17, 2011 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.
Per her wishes no burial services will be held in Chicago.
A forty day trisagion Orthodox Christian memorial service will be celebrated later in August at Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, Glenview, Illinois.
She was born on March 31, 1918, in Mason City, Iowa, to Zoe and Tony PAPPAS. She was the oldest of eleven children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Zacharias, siblings Florence, Anastasia, George, Helen, Olga, Nicholas, Sam and James.
She is survived by her son John (Mary), two grandchildren Zach and Basili, sister Harriet and brother Gus, one adopted grandchild, numerous nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
