Barbara Cecelia Hanson, 109, of Mason City, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.
A funeral Mass was held Saturday, June 20, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Thomas McAndrew, of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly officiating. Burial was in the Elmwood-St Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.
Barbara Cecelia Hanson was born November 24, 1888, near Plymouth, in Worth County, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Hovel) Fitzl. She received her education in the Plymouth school system.
On July 9 1907, she was united in marriage to Hans Hanson, in Mason City. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1928.
After their marriage, they farmed west of Plymouth, in Lime Creek Township. She continued to farm with her sons after her husband's death, until she entered the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City in 1988. She had been a resident of the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood since May 26, 1992.
Barbara loved flowers, gardening, cooking, baking, and she learned to play the organ by ear. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City.
Survivors include her daughter, Ethel Luckason, of Northwood; her son, Raymond "Pete" Hanson, of the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and five children.
