Obituary - Alvin E. Meyer, Jr.

Ventura - Alvin E. MEYER, Jr. 77, of 215 East Lake Street, died Thursday November 20, 2008, at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday November 25, 2008, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 301 South Main Street, Ventura, with Reverend Daird KORTH officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 24, 2008, from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, and continue one hour prior to the service at the church Tuesday.

Memorials may be directed to the Alvin E. MEYER, Jr. Memorial Fund.

Alvin E. MEYER, Jr. was born October 1, 1931, in Garner, IA the son of Alvin Sr. and Arlis (GEISLER) MEYER. Alvin graduated from Ventura High School. He enlisted into the United States Airforce, Ft. Hood, Texas. Alvin was united in marriage to Frances MUHLENBRUCH on June 12, 1960; to this union three children were born.

Alvin farmed in the Ventura area all of his life. He was a great influence to his sons in agriculture helping them get started in farming. After retiring Alvin and Frances moved into town in Ventura.

Alvin enjoyed restoring tractors, tinkering with Volkswagens, woodworking and watching Westerns. He really loved spending time with his family and socializing with friends at the Ventura Elevator. He was a member of Farm Bureau, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and was a 4H leader.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Frances MEYER, Hampton, children, Cindy DVORAK, Ventura, Jeff MEYER, Garner, Rick (Michelle) MEYER, Iowa Falls; grandchildren, Laura and Jenny, Dvorak, Ventura, Josh, Ben and Kayla MEYER, Iowa Falls; siblings, Mari (Carroll) ALBERS, Garner, Jim (Mary Jo) MEYER, Clear Lake, Boni PRINGNITZ, Garner, Bob (Jan) MEYER, Mason City; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Phillip DVORAK and brother-in-law, Virgil PRINGNITZ.
