Obituary - James K. "Jim" Lane

James K. LANE, 90, of 4709 E. Calypso Ave., Mesa, Az. formerly of Clear Lake, died Dec. 4, 2007 after an extended illness.

Graveside services will be Friday, May 30, 1:30 p.m. at the Clear Lake Cemetery with the Rev. Dianna HOOVER of United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, officiating. Masonic services will be by the Harding Lodge No. 649 AF & AM and military honors will be by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Jim was born Oct. 29, 1917 the son of Roy and Bernice (DUTRO) LANE at Grinnell, Iowa. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1936, where he was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and track. Following graduation he attended the University of Iowa.

Jim married Jane McMULLEN May 30, 1941 at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church.

He served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Marshall Islands. After his discharge from the service he was employed by Standard Oil Co. After several company moves the LANES finally resided in Sioux City, Iowa where he conducted a gas and oil distributorship until the time of his retirement in 1974.

He enjoyed spending the summers at the cabin at Lake Shetek, Minn., playing golf and traveling during the winter months. He and Jane finally found their spot for a permanent home in Mesa.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jane LANE, Mesa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Rance LANE, and a sister, Marilyn DREW.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
