MASON CITY — Leonard D. LANSING, 81, of Fishers, Ind., and formerly of Mason City, died Monday, May 2, 2011 at Good Shepherd Health Care Center in Mason City.

Leonard D. LANSING, 81, of Fishers, Indiana and formerly of Mason City passed away Monday (May 2, 2011) at Good Shepherd Health Care Center in Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday (May 5, 2011) at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Michael J. SCHUELLER officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening (May 4, 2011) from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, where a Scriptural Wake service will be held at 5:30 p.m.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left to the Good Shepherd Telephone Reassurance program.

Leonard Donald LANSING was born on June 17, 1929 in Mason City, the son of John and Florence (MATTER) LANSING. He attended high school and graduated from Holy Family Catholic High School in Mason City.

On October 27, 1949 Leonard was united in marriage to Geraldine "Gerry" ROTHAMEL at Holy Family Catholic Church; this union would be blessed with three children.

For fifty years Leonard was a service manager for GM Motors in Mason City.

In his free time, Leonard could always be found outside. He enjoyed fishing, yard work, and tending to the vegetable garden. In earlier years he loved taking his family on summer vacations to Spirit Lake, where they would spend countless hours fishing, boating, and waterskiing. Each year he also looked forward to his annual fishing trip to Canada.

Leonard spent 74 years in Mason City before he and Gerry moved to Fishers, Indiana 7 years ago to be closer to their family.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Holy Family Catholic Church.

Those grateful in sharing in Leonard's life are his wife of 63 years, Gerry LANSING, Fishers, IN; his daughters, Rosanne KEMPF, Sarasota, FL and Jean EDDY, Fishers, IN; his grandchildren, Craig, Brian, Douglas, and Elizabeth; his sisters, Irene TRAMPEL, Mason City, and Sharon O'NEILL, Mason City; and many extended family members as well as many friends.

Preceding Leonard in death are his parents and his son, Mark Allen LANSING.
