Dr. C. B. Tice dies at age 83

Dr. C. B. [Claude Baker] TICE, 83, retired physician and surgeon, died early Tuesday morning [January 28, 1964] in a Mason City hospital. He had resided in Mason City 46 years and made his home at 125 9th NW.

Dr. TICE was born March 5, 1880, in Cass County, son of Thomoas and Ada (BAKER) TICE. He attended Iowa State Teachers College (now State College of Iowa, the University of Iowa and obtained his professional training at Hahnemann Medical College, Chicago.

In 1912 when he had completed his medical school studies, he moved to Klemme to take over the practice of Dr. WHITE who took a long vacation. It was during this period that Dr. TICE met Amanda ARNOLD.

They were married Feb. 12, 1913, and his bride accompanied him to New York, where he took a post-graduate course. He interned as a police surgeion in Rochester, N.Y. They then moved to Sioux Rapids, where Dr. TICE began the practice of medicine.

They came to Mason City in 1918, where he continued the practice of medicine and became president of the Mercy Hospital staff.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, Dr. Arnold TICE, head of the psychiatry clinic at Waterloo, and Dr. George TICE, surgeon with the Independent Surgical and Medical Group of Mason City. Eight grandchildren and a sister, Bertha CARLSON, Twin Falls, Idaho, also survive. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The Patterson-James Funeral Home is in charge.
