Vern Riggins dies at 78 in Dougherty

Vern L. RIGGINS, 78, retired employee of the Tyden Feed and Livestock Company, Dougherty, died suddenly Sunday [February 2, 1964] at his home in Dougherty. He was a lifelong resident of the area.

Mr. RIGGINS was born Jan. 29, 1898 in Butler County, son of Edmund and Martha (LOCKWOOD) RIGGINS. He was married to Rose DOUGHERTY, June 3, 1913, at St. Patrick's Church, in Dougherty.

He began working for Farmers Co-op Elevator in Dougherty in 1927. In 1949 he joined the Tyden Feed and Livestock Company of Dougherty. He retired in 1955.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, Edmund RIGGINS, Mason City, and Ronald RIGGINS, La Crosse, Wis.; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Kathleen) LEWIS, Norfolk, Va.; Mrs. Don (Helen) LANGFORD, Salinas, Calif., and Mrs. Frank (Rosemary) SCHILLER, Whittier, Calif., and nine grandchildren.

Two brothers, Ross RIGGINS, Hampton, and Clarence RIGGINS, Des Moines, and two sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Ora) MERRICK, Dougherty, and Mrs. Bert (Iva) EDWARDS, Hampton, also survive.

Mr. RIGGINS was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Dougherty and the Holy Name Society.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Visitaion has been scheduled at the Hogan-McKee Colonial Chapel until 11 a.m. Tuesday and at the RIGGINS home in Dougherty from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services.

Vern Riggins' funeral is set for Wednesday

Requium high Mass will be celebrated for Vern L. RIGGINS, 78, at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dougherty. The Rev. L. H. REICKS will be celebrant.

Mr. RIGGINS died Sunday [February 2, 1964] at his home in Dougherty.

Pallbearers selected are Raymond HOGAN, Everett NIXT, Bob RIGGINS, Charles MERRICK, Dean EDWARDS and Robert McDONOUGH.

The parish Rosary was scheduled for 8 p.m. Tuesday at the RIGGINS home in Dougherty. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Dougherty. The Hogan-McKee Colonial Funeral home is in charge.
