Obituary - Ida Electra Amundson

CLEAR LAKE - Ida Electra AMUNDSON, 106, of Story City, formerly of Clear Lake, died Thurs. [Nov. 19, 1998] at the Mary Greeley Hospital, in Ames, Story City Co. Iowa. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tues. Nov 24, 1998, at the Zion Lutheran Church, in Clear Lake, with Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Burial in Clear Lake Cemetery. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.

Ida Electra Amundson was born on March 2, 1892, in Radcliffe, the daughter of Lewis and Martha E. (ENGELSON) AMUNDSON. She was baptized in the Nazareth Lutheran Church west of Radcliff and reaffirmed in the faith of her baptism through confirmation in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Radcliffe.

She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught three years in rural schools in her community in Radcliffe. She also attended Mankato Business College and was employed in Minneapolis and Chicago for 17 years doing general office work and proof-reading. During WWII, she was employed in an Oakland, California, shipyard.

Since the death of her parents (her father died in 1947 and her mother in 1966) she had resided in Clear Lake with her sister, Mabel, until Mabel entered Bethany Manor Nursing Home in Story City in April of 1982. Ida then lived nearby until she entered Bethany Manor on April 12, 1989.

She enjoyed doing family genealogy and cooking.

She was a member of Zion Luthern Church in Clear Lake and the Church Circle.

Left to cerish her memory is a sister, Harriet OLSEN, of Marshalltown; a brother, Leroy, of Kensett; several nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mrs. Julius (Josephine) HENG; Mrs. Henry (Amy) LINN; Mrs. Martin (Laura) RICKMAN; Mabel AMUNDSON; and brothers, Thomas and Oscar AMUNDSON.
