MASON CITY — Robert A Laurie, 92, of 222 S. Pierce, a former linotype operator for the Globe-Gazette, died Thursday (May 30, 1985) at a Mason City hospital.
Masonic services will be held by Harding Lodge No. 649 A.F. and A.M. at 7:30 tonight at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 209 2nd NE. Graveside committal services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield, with the Rev. Donald Simmonds, pastor, of First Presbyterian Church, Mason City, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7:30 tonight until 9a.m. Saturday.
Mr. Laurie was born July 31, 1892 in Seymour to Peter and Mary (Paton) Laurie. On Nov. 16, 1916 he married Matilda Zeiger in Hampton. He worked for a newspaper in Sheffield, then for a newspaper Northwood before coming to Mason City in 1924. He worked for the Mason City Globe-Gazette as a linotype operator until he retired in 1961.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mason City, a member of Harding Lodge No. 649 A F. and A.M., and a past master of Harding Lodge. He was also a member of Typographical Union No. 118.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. William (Ruth Ann) Swogger, Mentone, Calif., and one granddaughter, Susan Swogger.
