Charles “Chuck” Edward Behr

Mason City- Charles “Chuck’ Edward Behr, 70 of 4 S. Willow Green Court, died Sunday (Oct. 15, 2006) at his home.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St.
S. E., with the Rev. Harry H. Koelker, the Rev. Jon M. Seda and Deacon Joseph Straub officiating.
Interment will be Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Rockwell, with full military honors conducted by members
of the Rockwell Gallagher American Legion.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today with a scriptural wake service at 6 p.m. followed by a Rosary at
Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. Mason City.
Memorials may be directed to Charles E. Behr Catholic Education Fund for Bishop Garrigan Catholic, Newman
Catholic, Dowling Catholic, St. Joseph Catholic (Ft. Collins) and Lafayette Catholic Schools.

Charles Edward Behr was born June 20, 1936, on the family farm near Rockwell, the son of LeRoy (“Scoop”)
Peter and Mary Helena (Donnelly) Behr. He attended school in Swaledale, Rockwell, Dougherty No. 9 and
Sacred Heart Academy in Rockwell.

Chuck enlisted in the United States Army on Aug. 31, 1955, serving his country in Korea. Chuck was united in
marriage to Susan Ella Seger on Aug. 31, 1961, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City. To this union
eight children were born.

While in Mason City, Chuck worked for Bill Taylor Standard Station and Marigold Dairies. In 1963, the family moved to Algona, where he owned and operated Chuck Behr Standard Station. Thereafter, Chuck and
Sue opened Chuck Behr’s Trailer Farm, which they operated until his retirement.

Chuck grew up on the farm and continued to cultivate his love of farming throughout his life. He was involved
in crop and livestock farming. In his retirement years, he became a collector of antique tractors and farm toys.
His greatest love was spending time with the love of his life Susan, his wife of 45 years.
He also had a strong bond with his siblings. Chuck was very proud of his children and grandchildren; they were
the light of his life.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Susan Behr; children Charles A. “Tony” (Lara) Behr, Lafayette, Ind.; Jeane
(Bo) Bishop, West Des Moines; Dr. John (Katherine) Behr, Evanston, Ill.; Patrick Behr, Mound, Minn.; Dr.
Joseph (Darlene) Behr, Mason City; Edward Behr, Mason City; Mary (James) Kirk, Iowa City; and Thomas
Behr, Fort Collins, Colo.; 21 grandchildren; mother, Mary H. Behr, Rockwell; brothers and sisters, Dorothy
DeVary, Rockwell; Rilla (Pete) Arnold, Mason City; Lee (Debbie) Behr, Rockwell; Ronald (Bev.) Behr, Rockwell; Paul Behr, Foxfield, Colo.; Dennis (Jane) Behr, Rockwell; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law,
Richard (Marvel) Seger, Milford; Mary (Chuck) Reckard, Spirit Lake; Nancy (Bob) Rummens, Rogersville,
Mo.; and JoAnne (Jon) Peterson, Mason City; along with several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Chuck is preceded in death by his father, LeRoy Behr, and brother-in-law, James DeVary.
