at Surf Saturday NightCLEAR LAKE - Seven sailor lads, "Yo! Ho!" met at the Surf Saturday evening in a "mobilization of the fleet" for social purposes, giving quite a nautical appearance to the assemblage. Among the seven were two Clear Lake boys, Dale BEAL and Stanley KOWALSKY, who arrived Thursday on a 10 day leave, Carl OLSTROM, Goodell, Lloyd OLSTROM and Paul AUSTIN, Crystal Lake, and two others from Sheffield and Cedar Falls. All are on leave from Great Lakes Naval station near Chicago.
The class of BEAL and KOWALSKY graduated 10 days early with the highest academic grades of any class in the history of the station. When the boys return they expect to be sent at once to New York City for the opening of the World's fair. Here a dinner, dance, tour of the fair and many other pleasures await them before putting to sea.
The boys expected that upon boarding ship, they would be sent to Cuba for rifle range practice for several weeks after which they would go with the fleet through the Panama canal to San Diego but since they left Chicago last week the fleet has been ordered back to the Pacific at once so they do not know just what changes may be in store for them. Some of the sailor lads have applied for positions on board a new battleship; others hope to sail for China but as yet nothing definate is known concerning their moves after returning to Great Lakes.
