Joint public memorial services honoring Robert E. WIDDRINGTON, who gave his life in combat on last December 13 in Alsace, France, will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock in Music hall. Doctor Paul Arnold PETERSON, pastor of the Wesley Methodist church will give the eulogy. Mrs. Harold WOLFE will be soloist.
Capt. George H. CURTIS, Jr. USMC, will be here to present the silver star medal to Mr. and Mrs. William T. CROSS, 422 5th S.E., being awarded posthumously to their son, Platoon Sgt. William C. CROSS, killed on Saipan. Chaplain Everett M. ROBIE of the Algona prisoner of war camp, will also attend to present a posthumous medal to Mrs. Faythe UFFORD for her husband, Capt. Richard UFFORD, killed on Layte.
The burial flag from the U.S. government will be given to Mrs. Ruth Irene WIDDRINGTON, wife of the soldier honored. The Gold star citation scroll from the national department of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and flowers fromthe 2 organizations will also be presented to Mrs. WIDDRINGTON.
The service will begin with a 5 minute prelude played by Mrs. Roy SERVISON. Mrs. WOLFE will sing "The Lord Is My Shepherd" by Samuel LIDDLE and Tennyson's "Crossing the Bar" by A. H. BEHREND, with Mrs. SERVISON accompanying.
Honor guard and firing squad for the service will be furnished by volunteers from Company E, Iowa state guard, under the command of Capt. Leslie R. WHIPPLE. Buglers for the day will be john REUBER and Bill NICHOLAS.
All veteran organizations will attend in a body with their colors and are requested to be present at the hall at 3:45.
