THORNTON - In the high school declamatory contest in the opera house Monday evening, Carl MORRIS won first, and Hazel BROGAN, second in the oratorical division; Martha Ruth JONES, first, and Doris THADA, second, in dramatic. In humorous, Mary COURTNEY was first, and Mary COLLINS, second. Miss Theresa MORS was coach.
Judges were Superintendent HOFFMAN, Mrs. Neva CLIFTON and Miss Nina ALLEMAN, teachers of Sheffield.

SWALEDALE - Results of the state preliminary declamatory contests held in the Swaledale gymnasium were: Oratorical, Carl MORRIS, Thornton, first; Leland ZIMMERMAN, Merservey, second; Dramatic, Margaret JAMES, Thornton, first; Mildred WENDEL of Merservy, second; Humorous, Mary COURTNEY of Thornton, first; Rachel ENABNET, Swaledale, second.
