January 4, 19367 Leaving for Navy Training
Officer O.O. Cleveland, navy recruiting agent for this territory, announced Saturday that seven North Iowa boys were scheduled to leave Mason City Sunday for San Diego, Cal., to begin their preliminary period of instruction in the naval training school there. The youths are Harold E. Marker, Nora Springs; Alfred J. Schmidt, Mitchell; William G. Weber, Mason City; Robert G. Rourke, Charles City; William F. May, Stacyville; Donald W. Jenkins, Thompson, and William L. Coppin, Elma. They will join four other North Iowa boys, William H. Pierce, Clear Lake; Robert A. Martin, Manly; James R. Miller, Mason City and Walter E. White, Thompson, who left here Dec. 9 to enlist in the San Diego school.
