CUPID VISITS GLOBE-GAZETTE

Marriages supposedly are made in Heaven, but the application for licenses of nearly a dozen couples literally were filled o the job at the Globe-Gazette’s old State Street location.

Twenty-two persons in the single state hired by the Globe-Gazette found marriage partners from among their fellow workers. Half were women and surprisingly, the other half were men.

Every one of these marital contracts remains unbroken today. This fact helps testify to the loyalty that has been inculcated in the Globe-Gazette family All but two of these husband and wife teams still have ties with the Globe-Gazette or affilated Lee Newspapers.

Earl PATTSCHULL, a composter, married Betty CLARKE, a proofreader.

Robert HANSEN, assistant composing room superindendent, married Marjorie PORTWOOD, also a proofreader.

Kenneth CAREY, now retail advertising department manager, married Opal DODGE, of the circulation department.

Wallace MALLARD, engraver, married Joice EVANS, also of the circulation department.

Henry B. HOOK, formerly of the newsroom and now co-publisher of the Davenport Times-Democrat, married Ruth SANDERS, a reporter-proofreader.

Leo CARLO, former composing room superintendent, married Ethel PATTSCHULL, a proofreader and sister of Earl PATTSCHULL.

Wayne RICHARDSON, Linotype operator, married Betty HILLSTROM, of the classified advertising department.

Lyle McCAULEY, Linotype operator, married Ida RYAN of the business office

George THOMPSON, a former reporter, married Alice SHEFFLER, of the business office.

Edward Jones, Linotype operator, married Wynanda Von BERG,

A. LOESCHEN, circulation department, married Wanda PEDELTY, of the national advertising department.

Several of the wives still play an important role in the daily production of the Globe-Gazette.They are Mrs. HANSEN, Mrs. JONES (now in the classified advertising department), and Mrs. PEDELTY. Mrs. PATTSCHULL frequently pinch-hits as proofreader.
