(Year unknown)2,000 Attend Store Opening
Largest Business in History
of Olson and Kossack
Done Saturday.Nearly 2,000 persons attended the formal opening of the new Olson and Kossack food store, 616 South Federal Avenue Saturday.
Among the features of the opening were demonstrations by six firms. The Western Grocer company served coffee; the Iten Biscuit company, cookies and crackers; the J. E. Decker and Sons company, ham; Hutchinson Ice Cream company, ice cream; Kenyon Dairy, cheese products, and the Mason City Bottling company, coca cola.
Visitors attended the opening from a radius of 40 miles of Mason City and 20 clerks waited on trade during the day, which was the largest in the volume of business done in the history of the firm. When the store closed for the night, the bared shelves gave the appearance of having survived a cyclone.
In the evening at 8 o'clock J. M. Robertson gave a talk on the Rite-Way food stores of which the Olson and Kossack company is a member. The Rite-Way group is an association of independent food stores under the sponsorship of the Western Grocery company, of which the Letts, Spencer, Smith company is the local branch.
A. R. Thompson, field service representative of the Mason City division of the Rite-Way food stores, assisted in supervising the remodeling and installation of new equipment in the Olson and Kossack establishment. The two delivery trucks were painted the tangerine orange which is the characteristic color of the Rite-Way system.
