Randy & Janet Gray, Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame, 2015

Randy and Janet Grey’s 4-H participation started young. Both were 9 year members of the Iowa 4-H program Randy in Dallas County and Janet in Cerro Gordo. Both were active in their clubs and counties exhibiting and participating in a wide variety of project areas. They continued to expand their service to the state level by participating on State Councils, holding offices, and working at the Iowa State Fair for several years.

Randy and Janet Co-led the Ventura Hustlers 4-H club in Cerro Gordo County for 5 years as they raised their 2 children in the 4-H ways. The family was very involved in showing 4-H lambs at county fair, State fair, AKSARBEN and much more. Randy and Janet have continued to be involved in the sheep project area for the last 12 years. Randy currently serves as Sheep Superintendent for Cerro Gordo County 4-H and Janet is always willing to lend a hand and help with the duties.

Continuing to stay connected to Cerro Gordo County 4-H Randy and Janet hold seats on the County 4-H Foundation board as Treasurer and bookkeeper. The 4-H foundation raises funds to financially aid youth in many aspects of county and state opportunities. The Foundation also heads the organization and maintenance of the 4-H Learning Center and food stand on the North Iowa Fairgrounds. Both have been valuable assets to this team and dedicate much time and energy into the 4-H Program. Randy was also an 8 year member of the Cerro Gordo Extension Council, helping to govern and provide insight on the 4-H program.

When asked their favorite part of being involved in the 4-H Program, Randy and Janet state, “sharing with other families and being involved in helping young people develop into responsible adults. It is very rewarding to see those we have touched through 4-H projects, graduate college and enter the adult working world.”
