B. J. [Brittain Jerome] Agler
Brittain J. Agler, farmer, Paw Paw Grove [Illinois], was born in Lycoming county, Pennsylvania, in 1848, and was the youngest of five sons and four daughters by Jerome and Sarah (Brittain) Agler. His father came west in the spring of 1840 and located his family on the south side of Paw Paw Grove. Farming has always been Mr. Agler's occupation, and his home was never elsewhere than in Lee county, excepting a residence of three years at Mendota. He was married September 21, 1873, to Miss Mary E. Pulver, daughter of James F. and Sarah C. Pulver of Paw Paw. Her birth was on April 18, 1852. Two children have been born to them, James J., April 13, 1874, and Fred W., September 7, 1879. Mrs. Agler is a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at South Paw Paw. He is a republican, and owns 178 acres of land in sec. 2, Wyoming township, valued at $8,000. Mr. Agler's brothers, Joseph and John were volunteers in Co. K, 75th Ill. Vol. Inf. [Civil War], served their full term of three years, and bore a part in several memorable engagements.
