Legion 40 and 8 Society: Was Born in Greene.

Coming as the reward for his diligent and active work in the interest of the American Legion, Dr. Thomas A. NETTLETON, 12 Sixteenth street southeast, one of the younger dentists of Mason City was elected recently at the Marshalltown the Grad Chef de Gare or more commonly the president of the state organization
of 40-8.

After serving his apprenticeship, figuratively speaking, as grand correspondent of the state organization for the past three years, Dr. NETTLETON won the honor at the recent convention held at Marshalltown. His previous record with the honorary society of the American Legion had been as correspondent for the local volture, grand cheminot, or commander for the fourth congressional district of 40-8. He also is known as past adjutant of the local post of American Legion.

Enlisted at 18.

Born as the son of a farmer near Greene, June 15, 1900, Dr. NETTLETON began his early education in rural schools of Butler County, completing all eight grades in the country. His high school training he took at the Sacred Heart Academy at Greene.

Immediately upon the finish of his high school career, at the age of 18 he enlisted in the army at Omaha, wearing his khaki in the infantry division. He remained at Fort Omaha until after the Armistice was signed.

In the year 1919 he registered at the Creighton University at Omaha. Expressing a desire to accept dentistry as a profession. Dr. NETTLETON followed that course and was graduated in 1922. While at the university he was elected to the professional dental fraternity Xi Psi Phi.

Won Scholarship.

Dr. NETTLETON won a single year scholarship to the Forsyth Dental Infirmary at Boston, Mass., where he studied and specialized in exodontist or extraction and anesthesia. He also took post graduate work in the same subjects at St. Louis, being a student under George B Winter. Passing the state board of dental examiners examinations in 1922, NETTLETON was given authority to practice dentistry in Iowa. The young doctor opened his offices in Mason City in early 1923, and was married a year afterward to a Mason City girl, Miss Margaret WALSH.

Dr. NETTLETON holds memberships in the American Legion, 40-8, Knights of Columbus, Mason City District Dental society, Iowa State Dental society, National Dental society; is a first lieutenant in the officers Reserve training cop, dental unit; and belongs to Xi Psi Phi.
